Entrepreneurial educators, researchers & innovators
ELLLA–the eHealth Living & Learning Lab Amsterdam–is a hub for person-centred digital health education, science and innovation, based at Amsterdam UMC and the University of Amsterdam.

We believe in person-centred health care for everyone.
We believe that digital solutions can make health care more accessible, efficient and effective. But only if they are aligned to what people–patients and clinicians–want and need.
We believe that accelerating innovation responsibly means a constant search for synergies and collaboration across boundaries of sector, discipline and geography.
“My vision for the future of health care is that everyone in society can benefit from trusted digital solutions that are accessible, usable, safe and cost-effective.” Linda Peute, ELLLA Director

Our roadmap to impact
How do you get from your problem, idea or invention to a trusted, widely adopted digital solution in healthcare?
At ELLLA, we start with people: the users of digital solutions. We’ve distilled 30 years of experience in the science of Human Factors Engineering into a model for creating technology that works for people. From user-centred development, through user-testing, implementation and evaluation, we work end-to-end, across the full innovation lifecycle.

State of the art facilities
Our mobile UX lab is fully equipped to get the most value out of every user test. In the lab, simulated or live clinical environments, and in real-world settings.
- Eye tracking
- Multi-camera and multi-channel audio recording
- Screen-capture
- Facial recognition
- Viso capture software for multi-channel data

A home in the hospital
Thanks to our mobile UX lab, the ELLLA team can contribute to education, research and innovation anywhere in the world.
But Amsterdam is our home, and we share it with 20,000 healthcare professionals, 35,000 patients and 5000 students. Amsterdam UMC is the largest health care provider in the Netherlands and one of Europe’s most important academic medical centres. The ELLLA team belong to Amsterdam UMC’s Department of Medical Informatics.
